Tate Rink (Established 1985)
The Holleder Center is home to West Point's Tate Rink and Army's hockey team. Construction on the 131,000-square-foot building was completed on Oct. 1, 1985.
Namesake - Joseph S. Tate and Frederic H.S. Tate
Tate Rink is named in honor of two brothers, World War II pilots Joseph S. Tate ('41) and Frederic H.S. Tate ('42). The hockey players dress in a spacious locker room, dedicated as the Major Thomas Kennedy "TK" Locker Room. The team recreation room, donated by David V. Harkins ('62), a three-year letterwinner for the Black Knights, overlooks the ice surface.
History
Tate Rink continues to attract fans in record numbers while providing the Black Knights with a comfortable home-ice advantage. The Black Knights have carved out a home record of .500 or better 21 times since the 1985-86 inaugural season and boast an overall winning percentage of .559 in front of the hometown faithful. Many loyal fans have come to Tate Rink in each of the past 41 seasons to support the Black Knights hockey team. In the 1996-97 season, the Black Knights set a third consecutive attendance mark, attracting 42,929 fans. The all-time single-game attendance. Army fans witnessed three wins in the three-straight sellouts, including a nine-round shootout victory against service academy rival Air Force. While the ice surface and fan seating areas are top-notch, Tate Rink has several other amenities. A three-tiered press box includes a camera deck for television and radio broadcats. In 2026, Army hockey games are broadcast on ESPN+ and FloHockey.
