Men's Tennis Falls To Sacred Heart

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army men's tennis team jumped out to a quick 1-0 start after posting the point in doubles behind wins at No. 2 and 3, but Sacred Hart took five of the six single matches en route to handing the host Black Knights a 5-2 defeat Friday evening at Litchenberg Tennis Center.
Sophomore Alex Holland had a hand in two wins, teaming with freshman Asika Isoh to turn back Nick Mazzarese and Jinal Shah at No. 3 doubles, then posted Army's lone win in singles where he rode to a one-sided 6-2, 6-1 win over Chris Ujkic at No. 2.
Army junior Donald Van Velzer and freshman Henry Jang-Milsten combined their talents to take the measure of Sacred Heart's tandem of Cole Conrad and Mike Syer, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles to gain the point. .
Rommel Verano forced his match at No. 4 singles to three sets after outlasting Conrad 6-5 in the second set before bowing, while Jang-Milsten lost the tiebreaker in the second set at No. 3 singles as the Black Knights suffered their fifth straight defeat.
Army came close to sweeping all three doubles, but came up short in a tight 9-8 (7-3) loss at No. 1.
The Black Knights will look to rebound Sunday when they take on service-academy rival Air Force, 1 p.m., at Litchenberg Tennis Center.
