HANOVER, N.H. – Army men’s tennis lost at Dartmouth 7-0 Sunday morning to drop to 0-2 on the young season. Despite the score, the Black Knights battled hard against a regional foe which featured a lineup peppered with ranked players.
The Big Green (5-0) went ahead 1-0 after sweeping the three doubles contests. Army fought hard, dropping a pair of tight matches. Junior Alex Holland and sophomore Rommel Verano were narrowly edged by Mike Jacobs and Brandon DeBot, 8-6, at the No. 3 spot, while sophomores Asika Isoh and Henry Jang-Milsten fell to Michael Laser and Alex DeChatellus, 8-5, at the top position.
Isoh and Jang-Milsten battled in competitive singles matches as well, both falling in the third set after winning the first. At No. 1, Isoh suffered his first career dual match loss to an Ivy League foe with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 setback to the 65th-ranked singles player in the country in Xander Centenari. Isoh knocked off opponents from Columbia and Yale during the 2011 dual season. Jang-Milsten lost to Chris Ho at No. 5 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Sunday’s loss dropped Army to 19-50 all-time against Dartmouth, including its current six-match losing streak. The Black Knights last defeated the Big Green in 2005.
Army will play its first home match of the season next weekend when it hosts a tripleheader. Army will open the weekend with a 1 p.m., showdown with Stony Brook on Saturday, followed by a pair of Sunday matches against Connecticut (9 a.m.) and Vassar (5 p.m.).
