Army Advances to Sweet Sixteen with Victory Over UConn

KINGSTON, RI - Competing in the American Collegiate Rugby Association (ACRA) Conference Final Plate Match, the Army women's rugby team defeated UConn 41-14 from the University of Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon.
The game was scoreless for a majority of the first half, with neither team able to score until Kate Roose broke free in the 30th minute, with Carissa Pekny converting the kick, to put Army on top 7-0.
UConn would add a score eight minutes later to send the game into the break tied at 7-7.
The Black Knights dominated the second half, with Pekny scoring just five minutes in. Roose would follow minutes later, pushing the Army lead to 22-7.
In the 60th minute, Chandler Cole scored her first try of the season, with Pekny converting the kick to put the Black Knights up 24-7.
UConn would add its final points in the 64th minute, pulling within 10 points of the Army lead.
Three straight tries from Pekny, Allison Wilson and Allie McDonald would cap off the Black Knights' scoring onslaught, giving the team the 41-14 victory.
The win was the second of the season for Army over the Huskies and advances the Black Knights to the Sweet Sixteen.
