Women's Cross Country Finishes 24th at Paul Short
October 02, 2015 | Women's Cross Country
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Army West Point women's cross country team was able to take home a 24th-place finish in the field of 45 schools at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh on Friday.
Senior Lindsay Gabow led the pack of Cadets as she has done for the better half of two seasons now, finishing the 6K race in 21:51. She finished 12th overall. Freshmen Payton Padgett, Sarah Jeon, Cassie Mundekis and Mary Pollin all contributed points in the 42nd-annual Paul Short Run. Padgett finished 43rd overall with a time of 22:22, while Jeon was 136th crossing the line after 23:16. Mundekis was the Black Knight's No. 4 runner, finishing 186th in 23:40. Pollin finished 265th with a time of 24:17. Sophomore Stephanie McDermott also competed, finishing 330th with a time of 25:04.
"We were looking for some improvements in our racing today and, for the most part, I think that happened," said head coach Mike Smith. "Once again, our plebes finished in the majority of our scoring places. They are getting better, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. I think that as long as we are patient and focus on the process they will get there."
The Black Knights return to action on Oct. 16, when they host service academy rival Navy for the annual Star Meet.
