Women’s Tennis Claims Two Victories in Day One at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, VT - Nancy Porter and Rugile Valuniate led the way for the Black Knights in day one of the Middlebury Invite, each earning a singles victory on Friday evening.
Army West Point and Middleburg were the only two teams in action on the opening day of the invite, playing each other in five singles matches.
At No. 2 singles, Porter defeated Molly Paradies by a score of 7-5, 7-5. Valuniate earned her win in the third spot, knocking off Catherine Miller by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Alllyson Hayley fell to Christina Puccinelli by a score of 6-7 (6), 6-3, 10-3 in the top pairing. Haley O'Connor dropped a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8 decision to Sadie Shackelford annd Sera Martorelli lost to Lauren Amos by a score of 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Action will resume tomorrow as the Black Knights are set to take on Amherst in doubles at 11 a.m., followed by doubles action at 12:30 p.m. They'll square off with Williams in doubles action at 2 p.m. and Amherst in singles again at 3:30 p.m.
The tournament will wrap up on Sunday with singles play against Williams.
