ROUND TWO TEAM RESULTS
ROUND TWO INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
ROUND THREE TEE TIMES
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Army West Point golf team completed the second day of the NCAA Regional Tournament Tuesday under difficult scoring conditions and winds up to 30 miles per hour. The Black Knights are 13th through 36 holes with a score of 303-333—636.
Â
"Warming up today, we knew that par was going to be an excellent number," said head coach Brian Watts. "Our goal for the day was to stay patient and limit our mistakes and realize there was a lot out of our control due to the weather and course conditions. Unfortunately, we got off to a rough start which added additional pressure to play more aggressive than we needed to. This caused some unforced errors on the course and created difficult ups and downs."
Â
Peter Kim went seven-over on the day to rank tied for the 12th spot. He totaled 71-79—150 on the day and recorded three birdies in the process to total eight on the week so far to rank him second among competitors.
Â
"Peter had another great round going today," added Watts. "He had a bad break which led to a triple bogey, but fought back during the middle of the round and lost some strokes in the last stretch of holes due to the strong winds and a few poor shots."
Â
Dean Sakata jumped up to rank t-57th with an 82 on the day. He had one birdie and made par on nine other holes. For the tournament, Sakata totals 160 strokes for the team's second-best score.
Â
Eric Peng (77-84—162) finished the day tied for 61st, while Marcus Plunkett (77-85—162) closed-out the 36-holes tied for 63rd, respectively. Justin Pagila is t-69th with 165 strokes. Peng recorded two birdies in today's round, while Plunkett had one.
Â
Overall, the Cadets combined for a 57-over score of 663 which places them 13th. Arizona State maintains its lead with an eight-over score and is followed by TCU (+21), South Florida (+24), Southern California (+26) and Texas A&M (+27).
Â
The top individual golfers after two rounds are J. Rahm (69-71—140), S. Crocker (70-74—144) and R. Brooks (70-74—144). Rahm is the only golfer in the field to have an under-par score.
Â
"Tomorrow, I want the team to go out and just play with heart and enjoy the walk knowing that it will be the last collegiate round for our two seniors: Marcus and Eric," said Watts. "This team has fought back all year long and I would expect nothing different in how they perform tomorrow."
