Bobcats Spoil Season Opener for Women’s Rugby

WEST POINT, N.Y. – In a rematch of last season's National Collegiate Women's Varsity Rugby Association championship, the Army West Point women's rugby team dropped a 32-19 decision to Quinnipiac Thursday night at Anderson Rugby Complex.

The Black Knights held a 19-17 lead at halftime, but three tries by Quinnipiac in the final 40 minutes proved to be the difference in the game.

Quinnipiac moves to 1-0 on the season and are undefeated in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association, while Army falls to 0-1 to open the season.

GAME NOTES

Tonight's game marked the sixth all-time meeting between Army and Quinnipiac in 15s play.
Sarah Meier, Elexa Leach, Giovanna Ferguson-Lewis, Bayleigh Gable and Sydney Hawkins all made their first-career start against the Bobcats.
Junior Rebecca Stipp's try was the eighth of her career, bringing her points total to 40, both of which tie her for sixth in program history.
Gable and Hawkins scored their first-career points.
