Army Falls to Navy in Outdoor Meet
April 07, 2018 | Women's Track and Field
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's track and field team fell to service-academy rival Navy in annual star meet. Â
Â
The meet was held at West Point in Shea Stadium. The Mids won the meet with 107 points, while the Black Knights fell short with a score of 96.
Â
Coach's Quotes:
"Well, I'm disappointed that we lost," said head coach Mike Smith. "Going into the meet, I had it predicted really close and we lost by a little bit more than I thought we would, but it's not because we didn't perform well, they just out-performed us. They had people do a better job than we thought they would."
Â
"We had our people really getting it done in a number of events, we just didn't have enough of them, but that's a problem we can solve. We had a lot of wins and great marks, great performances, we just didn't back them up with enough second and third places. That's the name of the game in a dual meet. Unfortunately for us today, it didn't work out."
Â
"I told the team I was really proud of their effort and the way they competed. I can't feel bad for the way we lost, we did what we could do with the people we have. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do in the next few years. We are young and there is a lot more room for us to get better, and we will." Â
