Volleyball Opens Season With Straight Sets Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point volleyball team kicked off its season with a dominant three set victory over New Hampshire in the Army Invitational.Â

"I am very proud of the team's performance today," Head Coach Alma Kovaci Lee said. "They have committed themselves to pursuing greatness. This team is putting the work in."

Senior captain Courtney Horace led the charge with a match-high 14 kills. Hannah Presley posted 19 assists to lead the way in the setting department.Â

"I am proud of our offense and proud of our setters' performance," Kovaci Lee said. "Overall it was great start to the season and we are looking to continue to get better."

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
FIRST SET
- The Black Knights were strong from the start, jumping out to a 20-5 lead behind a strong effort at the net.Â
- Emmy Barnhorst collected five kills on six attempts in the first frame.Â
- Presley collected six helpers without an error on the floor.
- Army closed out the set 25-11.Â
- The second frame was contested to the finish, with Army holding on to a slim lead from the tenth point on.Â
- Libero Ana Oglivie had six digs while Horace added another six kills in the set.Â
- The Black Knights took the second set 25-22.
- The Cadets kept the momentum going into set three, taking the lead for good after the teams were even at 1-1.Â
- Presley added seven more assists in the final frame.Â
- Senior Sydney Morriss recorded four kills on six attempts as Army pulled away.Â
- Army took the third and final stanza 25-15.Â
