Singles Dominance Moves Black Knights Past Pomona College 4-3

CLAREMONT, CA. – After suffering a tough 6-1 loss to CMS on Sunday, the Army West Point women's tennis team bounced back in a hard fought 4-3 battle with Pomona Monday afternoon. The Black Knights will come back to West Point with a 1-1 record over spring break and a 13-4 overall record, ready to jump right into conference play against Lafayette, Loyola and Bucknell on Saturday Mar. 21 and Sunday, Mar. 22.
The Breakdown
Army got off to a tough start in doubles play, losing two of three to the Sagehens to give up a 1-0 lead to open the match. The doubles duo of Ana Joyner and Sam DiMaio provided the solo win for the Black Knights, moving past Rebecca Salaway and Jacinta Chen in a 6-2 victory.
The Black Knights turned their luck around in a dominant singles performance, taking four of six matchups to secure the teams 4-3 win over the Sagehens. Sam DiMaio opened up the scoring for the Black and Gold in the No. 5 slot, taking a 6-2, 6-3 match from Pomona's Jay Kim. Elizabeth Gilbert followed suit in a near shutout 6-1, 6-1 victory, opening the door for Stephanie Dolehide (6-3, 6-2) and Paola Bou (7-5, 6-3) to clinch an important team win.
