March 11, 2020 | Men's Rugby
VALLEJO, CA. – After a tough meeting with the No. 1 team in the country earlier in the week, the Army West Point men's rugby team found another strong competitor in Central Washington University Wednesday afternoon. The Black Knights gave a 7-0 Central Washington team a good run but fell at the hands of the Wildcats 51-20 through 80 minutes. Army falls to an even 6-6 overall and will return to home turf for a meeting with Penn State on Saturday, Mar. 21 at 1 p.m.
Army got off to an early lead offensively however both teams traded points for much of the first half. The Black Knights and the Wildcats were held at a 10-10 standstill at the 20th minute and remained that way until the final moments of the half. A key penalty kick by Sean McNulty in the 34th minute allowed Army to take a 13-10 lead with only five to play. The first half would go into extra time as the Wildcats drove forward towards the Black Knights try line, moving them ahead 15-13 to end the first half.
Central Washington's offense came out hot in the second half, adding five tries in a 25-minute span. Despite a strong effort by Army's offense to answer back, the Wildcats were able to advance their lead, securing their eighth straight win of the season. A try by Nathan Brooks and long conversion by McNulty solidified a 51-20 final score.
