October 16, 2021 | Men's Rugby
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Army West Point men's rugby team bounced back in a big way Saturday afternoon with a 43-8 win over its Rugby East foe, Kutztown. The Black Knights ran away with the victory after scoring 38 straight points, and holding Kutztown scoreless for 46 minutes of game action.
Koikoi Nelligan picked up where he left off against Penn State, leading the Cadets with a pair of try scores in the contest. Steven Rohde, Lucas Pattinson, Michael Amberg, Dom Tianga and Sean McNulty all also punched home try scores to propel the Brothers to a key Rugby East win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Coming off its first loss of the season against Dartmouth, the Black Knights came to Kutztown with the goal to get back on track. Kutztown proved to be a tough opponent through the first 20 minutes of the game, as both sides went back and forth until Army was able to break the tie in the 19' minute with a Steven Rohde try score. Kutztown answered with a penalty kick score to make it 5-3.
That is the closest the score would ever get, as Lucas Pattinson punched in the next try and sparked a 38-point Army scoring run. Koikoi Nelligan would add two try scores to extend his team-lead to seven tries on the season.
Sean McNulty joined in on the action with his first try of the season, adding 13 total points to the scoreboard to lead all Cadets.
Kutztown would get another try late in the game, but that was it as Army ran away with the win to bring its record to 5-1 and 4-0 in Rugby East play.

CADET QUOTES
"We came out with a renewed fire this week to attack the set piece after last week. The brothers rose to the challenge we set for ourself and stuck to the maul all game. We made some mistakes early and gave them some scoring opportunities, but we put our heads down and banded together as a team. We had some guys come off the bench to provide an energy boost and put on some great performances. Overall, great team win with contributions from everyone on the field. Never been more proud to be apart of this brotherhood, and we have our eyes set to Navy." - Koikoi Nelligan
"Really proud of the performance today from the boys. We played an extremely disciplined game and stuck to our game plan. Our forwards dominated against a good opponent and we were able to put together a great 80 minute performance." - Sean McNulty
