Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Contest to Bryant

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point men's tennis team lost a tough 5-2 matchup with a strong Bryant University team on Sunday afternoon.
The Black Knights got off to a strong start with a 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles slot from Diego Huttepain and Samuel Eden. Army battled through the next two bouts but struggled to find enough momentum to secure the team doubles point, giving the Bulldogs and early 1-0 advantage.
Army continued to put up a fight in singles, taking three different matchups to three sets. Eden and Jake Huarte were the solo winners for the Black Knights in singles play; Eden taking a dominant 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 match from Bryant's Massam and Huarte battling to three sets against Pregel in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 contest. Huttepain and Sam Kesti also took their matches to three sets in the No.1 and No. 6 slot. Huttepain opened singles with a victory in the opening set but dropped a 2-6, 3-6 in the second and third. Kesti fell in similar fashion taking an opening 6-3 win from Lorenz but falling in the next two sets 6-7, 4-6.
This is the Black Knights first loss of the year against a non-conference opponent, having come off of two wins against Sacred Heart and Monmouth University. Army will welcome Quinnipiac and NJIT to the Lichtenberg Tennis Center next weekend for back to back contests on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
