WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point women's rugby took down Brown University by a score of 17-0 to improve to 4-1 in the NIRA standings. The win marked the second shutout of the campaign for the Black Knights who remain undefeated at home.
Army got out to a quick lead less than five minutes in, with Alissa Eisenhart wisely attempting a drop kick after receiving the ball in space to give Army a 3-0 advantage. Brown was able to move the ball deep into Black Knights' territory in the ensuing minutes but Army's defensive unit was up to task to stymie any attempts to break through the back line.
Army continued to knock on the door throughout the course of the first half, with a large majority of the play occurring deep in the Bears half. The Black Knights came within a meter of a try in the 29th minute before having to reset, before eventually making it a two-score game with a try and conversion in the 35th minute.
After moving the ball deep into the right corner of the pitch, Gwynn Campos found Cecilia Ollis with a quick offload, with Ollis diving across the try-line to extend Army's lead. Eisenhart made no mistake on the conversion from a tough angle to make the score 10-0 at the half.
With the job at hand to protect the lead in the second half, Army did just that by controlling possession and dictating much of the play. After 30 minutes of scoreless play, Julia Riekena put the contest to rest with a try to make it 17-0 following another conversion from Eisenhart.
