Joanna Halfhill Named Patriot League Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year

BETHLEHEM, PA.- Army West Point women's cross country standout sophomore Joanna Halfhill was named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's cross country, announced today by the league.Â
Haflhill becomes the third cadet to take home the award in program history, with teammate Georgia Jones receiving the honor last season.Â
A native of Manfield, Ohio, Halfhill was a key contributor on the course this cross-country season. Halfhill began the season with a first-place individual finish in Army's matchup versus Maine before a top-10 finish in a highly-contested field at the Iona meet of Champions. Halfhill wrapped up the season with a pair of sixth-place finishes at the Army-Navy Star Meet and Patriot League Championships, helping Army to a second-place finish in the latter.Â
A Physics major, Halfhill boasts a cumulative GPA of 4.293, with the highest attainable GPA at West Point being 4.33. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.Â
In addition, Georgia Jones was named to the All-Academic Team with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. AÂ Physics major herself, Jones enjoyed another wonderful season for the Black Knights, with three top-five finishes. Jones took first-place in the Army-Navy Star Meet, before a fifth-place finish at the Patriot League Championships to help Army to a second place finish. Army was the only program to land multiple athletes on the All-Academic Team this season.
