Women's Rugby Picks Up 26-19 Victory at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Army West Point women's rugby never trailed as the Black Knights took down Penn State by a score of 26-19 on Saturday afternoon.

Grace Macune scored a pair of tries to lead the Black Knights, as Army now heads into its matchup with Navy with the momentum of a victory.

The teams played largely in the midfield to open the contest, seeing no score through the opening 15 minutes. Army was able to get deep into Nittany Lions territory, with Grace Macune eventually touching down the first try of the contest at the 20-minute mark. Alissa Eisenhart made good on the conversion to the Black Knights out to a 7-0 advantage.

Penn State responded with a try and conversion minutes later, knotting the score at seven. The Black Knights threatened just before the end of the half, eventually earning a penalty try as Penn State comitted a foul which prevented a try for Army. The seven-point penalty try gave the Black Knights a 14-7 lead at the half.

With the first score of the second half being pivotal, Macune once again touched down a try for the Black Knights, 12 minutes into the half. Army boasted a 19-7 lead after Macune's second try of the contest. A try from the Nittany Lions then made it 19-12 with 20 minutes to play.

With less than 10 minutes to play, Paige Barta extended Army's lead to 24-12 with a try which was followed by another conversion from Eisenhart, to give the Black Knights a comfortable 26-12 advantage. Penn State added a try and conversion in the closing minutes, bringing the final score to 26-19.
