Wrestling Claims Top Spot In Cleveland State Open
December 11, 2023 | Wrestling
West Point, NY – The Army West Point wrestling team finished in first place with 240.5 points this past weekend at the Cleveland State Open.
Coach's Corner:
Associate Head Coach Scott Green:
"We had ten guys place in the top three so that is a good thing. Nate and Dalton finishing on top is great for their progress and they both were fairly dominant in their bouts. We have a lot of depth and an event like this helps showcase some of our younger guys. When we needed to respond to a loss, or some other form of adversity today, we did so."
Hear From The Team
"I wrestled hard today, and I felt like I got better every match.
Overall, the team wrestled hard today. We will continue to improve as the season goes on."
Nate Lukez
"I had fun today. I thought I went out there and wrestled my matches, getting to the positions I wanted to be in, and letting it fly. I thought our teammates looked tough today, and we can learn a lot from our performances."
Dalton Harkins
Army saw ten wrestlers place within the top three of their weight classes. Junior Dalton Harkins and senior Nate Lukez both finished first place. Four Black Knights finished second, Matthew Williams, Charlie Farmer, Logan Brown, and Lucas Stoddard. Andrew Christie, Austin Kohlhofer, Braden Basile, and Ethan Berginc all came in third in their respective divisions.
