Black Knights Sweep Matches at Home, Defeat St. Bonaventure and Stony Brook

WEST POINT, N.Y. -The Army West Point women's tennis team defeated the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 4-0. The Black Knights defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves 4-3 Sunday afternoon. Vennmukiil Mathivanan won both of her sets, earning a team point for Army edging the Black Knights past the Seawolves.
How it Happened
The Black Knights won the doubles point vs. the Bonnies. Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile pulling out a 6-3 win against St. Bonaventure's Alexandra Jansson and Amelia Haley in the No. 2 position. Army's Sophie McKenzie and Carolyn Ahn defeated Sienna Smith and Amara Young with a 6-2 win in the third position.
In the singles matches, the Black Knights continued their success on the court. In the No. 1 spot, Elizabeth Gilbert competed against St. Bonaventure's Alexandra Jansson. Gilbert won both sets 6-6, 4-3.
In the No. 2 position, Emma Sy faced Amelia Haley. Sy defeated Haley in two sets (6-6, 4-3). Carolyn Ahn represented the Black Knights in the No. 6 spot competing against St. Bonaventure freshman Kelly Barnes.
In their match against the Stony Brook Seawolves, the Black Knights won the doubles point with Elizabeth Gilbert and Cooper Jackson defeating Kristi Boro and Mathilde Sreeves 7-5. Army's Anna Loureiro and McKinnley Smith bested Stony Brook's Chandrika Joshi and Loretto Del Carmen Villalba Rubio 6-3. Isabella Brilliant and Emma Sy fell to Despoina Mastrodima in a tight 6-4 match.
In the singles matches, Sophomore Cooper Jackson defeated Stony Brook's Kristine Theys in the first spot 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 2 spot, Emma Sy faced Loretto Del Carmen Villalba Rubio. Sy won the second set after falling to Villalba Rubio 7-6. Villalba Rubio bested Sy in the third set with a final score of 6-2.
Julia Kelly competed against Despoina Mastrodima in the third spot. Kelly won the first set 6-2. In the second set, Mastrodima came back to win 6-1. Kelly defeated Mastrodima in the third set, 6-3. In the No. 4 spot, the Seawolves earned a team point after Army's Ylan Duong fell to Kristi Boro in two sets (6-2, 7-5). Vennmukiil Mathivanan faced Stony Brook's Chandrika Joshi in the fifth spot. Mathivanan won both sets 7-6, 7-5.
In the No. 6 spot Army's Anna Loureiro fell to Stony Brook's Mathilde Sreeves in three sets. Sreeves won the first set in a 7-6 tiebreaker. In the second set Loureiro won 6-3. In the third set, scoring went back and forth between Loureiro and Sreeves. Sreeves bested Loureiro 7-5, making it a 3-2 match.
