Men’s Tennis Rallies Past Midnight; Tops Binghamton to Highlight Weekend

WEST POINT, NY – Army West Point men's tennis (5-3, 1-0 PL) picked up a thrilling victory over Binghamton while falling to Brown and Richmond across the weekend. Marcus Sebastian clinched the 4-3 victory over the Bearcats in a third set tiebreak that was set up to decide the match.
Army began the weekend at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, falling to Brown 4-1. Reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, Vishnu Bodavula, secured the lone singles victory for Army to maintain his perfect singles record and improve to 4-0.
After an originally slated 6:30 p.m. start time versus Binghamton, delays from a full day of matches at Lichtenberg Tennis Center caused the start to get pushed back towards 9:00 p.m. Things looked bleek for the Black Knights early on, as the Bearcats claimed the doubles point and the first two singles victories to head out to a 3-0 lead.
The four remaining Black Knights went to work, with A.J. Woodman and Daniel Zhou clinching straight set victories to keep Army alive and make it 3-2. Thomas Lake drop set one against Binghamton's William Morais Binnie, but rallied to collect 6-4 and 6-3 victories to tie it up at three just as the clock struck midnight.
The match was ultimately decided with Marcus Sebastian left on the court versus Binghamton's Kyle Weekes. Sebastian took set one in a tiebreak while Weekes was able to take the second set tiebreak. After being down a break in the third set, Sebastian rallied back to force a third tiebreak, eventually taking it 7-5 to give Army the victory.
Army had a quick turnaround on Sunday morning, taking on Richmond at 8:30 a.m. The Spiders bested the Black Knights, taking the doubles point and collecting the singles wins for a 4-0 victory.
