Women’s Tennis Falls to Navy in Annual Star Match

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army women's tennis team fell to the Navy Midshipmen 4-3 in the annual Star Match, Saturday afternoon. Army's Maria Drobotova, Emma Sy, and Ylan Duong each won their matches.
How it Happened
The Midshipmen secured the doubles point. In the No. 2 spot, Navy's Sia Chaudry and Casey Accola defeated Isabella Brilliant and Maria Drobotova 6-4. Kate Lee and Parvathi Shanker bested Army's Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile 6-1 in the third position.
In the singles matches, the Black Knights began their comeback. Freshman Maria Drobotova defeated Stella Ribaudo in two sets (6-2, 6-1), tying the match 1-1. Navy took a 2-1 lead after Emily Tannenbaum bested Cooper Jackson, winning both sets 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot.
In the sixth position, Ylan Duong defeated Parvathi Shanker, winning both sets (6-2, 6-2), tying the match 2-2. Freshman Emma Sy gave Army a 2-1 lead after besting Samantha Johns in the fifth position, giving the Black Knights a 2-1 lead.
Julia Kelly competed against Casey Accola in the No. 4 position. Kelly took the first set, winning 6-0. Accola won the second set 6-5, forcing a third set. Accola defeated Kelly 6-3, tying the match up 3-3. In the No.2 spot, Elizabeth Gilbert faced off against Sia Chaudry. Chaudry won the first set 7-5. In the second set, Chaudry bested Gilbert in a tight second set 6-4, securing the win.
