Women's Rugby Dominates on Way to AIC 7s Title

SRPINGFIELD, MA - Army West Point women's rugby began its 7s season with a tournament victory at AIC 7s, cruising to five straight victories to take the crown. Army held every opponent scoreless throughout the day, eventually outscoring the rest of the field 225-0 across the day.
Army cruised to a 2-0 mark in pool play, beginning with a 61-0 triumph over the AIC Gold unit. The Black Knights followed up with a 46-0 shutout win over New Haven, before setting up a rematch with AIC gold. With Army victories again, this time 57-0, the Black Knights matched up with Northeastern in the tournament's semifinals.
Army took down the Huskies 41-0, setting up a bout with host AIC in the final. Facing AIC Black for the first time, Army used four tries to blank the Yellow Jackets for a 20-0 victory in the AIC 7s Championships.
Army scored 37 tries throughout the tournament, with Olivia Popp leading the way with seven tries scored for 35 total points. Mckhaye O'Boyle and Cecilia Ollis also had productive days on the field, touching down for five and four tries, respectively.
Sydney Schaff knocked in 12 conversions on the day while Codi Butt made good on eight. The duo also compiled four tries each to finish the day as Army's leading two point-getters. Kaylee Cargile, Julia Riekena and Molly Murtagh each added three tries across the day.
Army will compete next at Tropical 7s, being held from Arpil 7-8 in Tampa, Florida.
