BROOKVILLE, NY - Army West Point women's rugby (1-2, 1-2 NIRA) collected its first victory of the campaign with a 39-5 win over LIU (1-1, 1-1 NIRA) on Saturday afternoon.
Army saw five tries from five different try scorers, with Alissa Eisenhart leading the way with 14 points through two penalty kicks and four conversions.
Eisenhart got the scoring started with a penalty kick in the 12th minute, giving Army a 3-0 lead in which it would never look back. In the 19th minute, Sophia Linder notched her second try in as many weeks which gave the Black Knights a 10-0 advantage following the conversion from Eisenhart.
Army's defense kept the Sharks at bay throughout the first half, blanking the home side through the opening 40 minutes. Army got a boost just before the half on its final possession, with plebe Stevie-Rae Ricklick touching down for her first career try. Army eventually led 17-0 at the half with Eisenhart making good on another conversion.
Army kept its foot on the pedal to start the second half, with Asha Jarusinski offloading to Harper Ray for her first try of the campaign which put Army ahead by 22. Midway through the second half, Emma Gamboa collected from the scrum and took it herself to secure her first try of the season. Eisenhart made good on the conversion, with LIU answering soon after with its lone try of the contest which made it a 29-5 game.
Gamboa would do the giving on Army's next try, finding Katelyn Woenker for Army's final try of the contest. Eisenhart knocked in her fourth conversion of the game, before making good on her second penalty kick of the contest as time expired, giving the Black Knights a 39-5 victory to get into the win column.
Army hits the road again next Saturday to take on Harvard at 1:00 p.m.
