Black Knights Conclude Competition at the Annual West Point Invite

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team concluded a successful weekend hosting the West Point Invite, the largest tournament on the East Coast, with freshmen Alexandra Oshidar and Emily Ruckno, both claiming championship titles, closing out the three-day tournament.
Match Recap:
In the singles flight E, first-seeded Alexandra Oshidar led the way for the Black Knights, where she reached the finals, competing opposite third seed Ella Lewis (Quinnipiac). Oshidar defeated Lewis in two sets (6-3, 6-3). In the C flight, freshman Emily Ruckno was seeded second. Ruckno dominated the court in the finals, competing against the number one seed Eleni Fasoula of Fordham. Ruckno completed the upset, besting Fasoula 7-6, 6-0.
In flight A, junior Jenna Sabile reached the quarterfinals Sabile was seeded fourth, where she competed opposite Cornell's Victoria Zhao, who was seeded sixth. Sabile fell to Zhao in a tiebreaker (6-4, 2-6, 3-10). Army's Emma Sy also competed in flight A, advancing to the round of 16, where she was bested by Fordham's Raffaela Alhach, who was the eighth seed in a tight 4-6, 6-7 match.
Third seed Vennmukiil Mathivanan competed in flight B. Mathivanan, won each of her matches, reaching the semifinals, where she competed against Cornell's Michelle Ryndin, who was seeded second. Ryndin defeated Mathivanan in two sets (2-6, 4-6).
Junior Paige Herremans was the No. four seed in flight C. Herremans went undefeated, reaching the semifinal round, where she was bested by the No. 1 seed Fasoula 0-6, 1-6. In flight D, freshman Naomi Widiaman was seeded third and advanced to the quarterfinals. Widiaman faced off against NJIT's Paula Menendez. Widiaman fell to Menendez 4-6, 6-1, 11-9.
In doubles, juniors Jenna Sabile and Julia Kelly were the seventh seed in flight A. Sabile and Kelly advanced to the semifinals, where they competed against NJIT's Sofia Pinedo and Sandra Dzhambazov. Pinedo and Dzhambazov defeated Sabile and Kelly 6-4. In the B flight, Isabella Brilliant and Emily Ruckno were seeded fifth. Brilliant and Ruckno competed opposite Quinnipiac's Anagha Shankar and Vera Sekerina. Shankar and Sekerina bested Brilliant and Ruckno 6-3.
