BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army Swimming & Diving freshmen Johnny Crush and Angie McKane made a splash in their collegiate debuts last week with the Black Knights and have earned the men's and women's Patriot League Swimmer of the Week titles respectively.
Both swimmers began their collegiate campaigns at Army's tri-meet with Fordham and Marist on Friday. The Black Knights men's and women's programs both defeated Marist and Fordham to claim first place in the meet.
Crush, a native of Louisville, Ky., set new program records in the men's 100 backstroke with a 47.07 and in the men's 50 backstroke with a 21.95 to claim first in both events.
He also swam the ninth fastest leadoff time in program history in the men's 500 freestyle relay to help the squad claim first place with an overall 3:45.22.
Crush's 50 back time was the first sub-22.00 time in the event in Army Swimming & Diving history.
Hailing from Corning, N.Y., McKane nabbed three first place finishes – the women's 50 butterfly (24.61), the women's 100 butterfly (54.36), and the women's 500 freestyle relay (4:20.27).
Her 100 butterfly time stands as the sixth fastest in program history and her 50 butterfly time earned her the top spot by more than a second.
Army Swimming & Diving's women will next host a tri-meet with Vermont and Central Connecticut State on October 4th at Crandall Pool beginning at 4:30pm ET before both the men's and women's programs head to Minneapolis for a dual meet at Minnesota on October 11th beginning at 7:30pm ET.
