Women’s Rugby Continues Run with Victory Over Royals
October 12, 2024 | Women's Rugby
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Army Women's Rugby earned their third NIRA win of the season in Saturday's matchup against Queens (N.C.) at Navy's Prusmack Rugby Center. The Royals found the scoreboard first but a blazing hot Army offense in the second half earned the Black Knights the 29-15 victory.
Queens notched a try just over four minutes into the action, but the Black Knights' defense stepped in to hold the Royals off until Alissa Eisenhart could make good on a penalty kick at the 19-minute mark to bring the score to 5-3 in the Royals' favor.
The Royals notched their second try of the game with 10 minutes left in the first half but Army flipped the script and McKhaye O'Boyle found the try zone five minutes later and Eisenhart sent home the conversion to bring things tied at 10-10 going into the break.
The stalemate continued as the second half began with the tie holding through the first 10 minutes back into action.
Yesenia Morales broke the freeze 52 minutes into the match and delivered and effort-filled try to give Army the 15-10 edge.
The Black Knights went on to score back-to-back tries at the 67 and 70-minute marks with Gabby Woenker and Morales notching Black Knight tries and Eisenhart converting on both.
The Royals refused to give up easily and made their way back into the try zone but failed to complete the conversion with four minutes left on the clock and Army clinched their third NIRA win of the season with the 29-15 final mark.
