October 08, 2024 | Volleyball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army Volleyball's Tatum Grimes earned recognition from the Patriot League on Tuesday as the League's Volleyball Rookie of the Week. The honor is Grimes' first collegiate weekly award as well as Army's first volleyball weekly award honor of the 2024 season.
"Tatum has been incredibly steady for us this season, and this is a well-deserved honor," commented Head Coach Alma Kovaci Lee. "She is respectful, coachable, and always wants to improve herself – it is impressive to see how consistent she is every time she steps on the court."
Grimes was a steadfast piece of Army's front row over the weekend, helping the squad to two Patriot League wins against Holy Cross and Colgate.
The Olathe, Kan. native led Army's middles with 13 kills on a .313 hitting percentage - highlighted by a seven kill, .400 performance against Colgate on Sunday.
She now stands fifth on the team for total kills with 82 – the highest amount by a freshman or middle on the team.
Grimes continued to add solo blocks to her tally with one against Colgate to bring her total to 13 solo blocks so far this season - tied for second in the League along with 60 block assists for a total of 73 blocks from the freshman.
As Army's current serving middle, Grimes picked up a pair of digs in the back row to help the Black Knights maintain their pace and earn two wins this weekend.
"Tatum manages pressure well and we know we can count on her in clutch moments," Kovaci Lee continued. "I know we as a coaching staff and a team are very proud of her."
