November 12, 2024 | Volleyball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point Volleyball junior outside hitter Mackenzie Lynch claimed this week's Patriot League Player of the Week title after a strong weekend of work from the Asheville, N.C. native. Lynch helped the Black Knights to two critical wins as the end of the squad's 2024 regular season draws near.
"We are all very proud of Mackenzie's development," commented Head Coach Alma Kovaci Lee. "This award is well-deserved and long time coming. Mackenzie has a passion for the sport and is a great student of the game. She is skilled and a very good player, but what I am most proud of is how tough and resilient she is becoming in our sport. It is awesome to see! She has earned this recognition as one of the best players in our conference."
Lynch delivered in big moments this weekend for Army, remaining composed in ruts and delivering well-placed shots to lift the Black Knights out of tough spots as they hosted Lehigh and Bucknell this weekend.
Against Lehigh, the junior led the match in kills with 18 on a .298 hitting percentage to help the Black Knights out-swing the Mountain Hawks 50-47.
With a team-best 14 digs, Lynch helped Army secure the four-set win over Lehigh that clinched Army's place in the Patriot League postseason and secured Head Coach Alma Kovaci Lee's 327th career win, making her the winningest coach in program history.
Lynch then posted a team-second 12 kills and picked up 10 digs against Bucknell to help the Black Knights sweep the League-leading Bison.
Lynch now totals 12 double-digit kill performances this season and leads the Black Knights in total digs with 317 so far this season – the highest number in the Patriot League among players other than those designated as liberos or defensive specialists.
