Men's Tennis Picks Up Victory Over Mercer

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point men's tennis secured a 4-1 victory over Mercer before falling to both Fairfield and Georgetown by a score of 4-2 from Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Friday and Sunday.

Army got off to a quick start on Friday against Mercer, with Vishnu Bodavula and Samuel Haikal setting the tone with a 6-3 flight one victory. Michael Rooney and Marcus Sebastian then finished the job in a tiebreak to put Army ahead 1-0. Haikal continued to impress in singles, boasting a (6-2, 6-3) win on court four. Jake Huarte tabbed a flight two victory (7-6, 6-0), while Alan Ton rounded out the scoring with a (6-4, 6-0) triumph on court six.

Returning versus Fairfield, the Stags earned a hard fought doubles point after a tiebreak win court three. Daniel Choi picked up a flight six singles win (6-4, 6-4) while Alan Ton posted a win on flight four (6-3, 6-4), but the Black Knights were outmatched and fell by a score of 4-2. Army saw similar fate against Georgetown, dropping the doubles point to begin before falling by a 4-2 final. Haikal remained perfect on the weekend with a (6-3, 7-6) victory on flight four over the Hoyas while Sebastian also picked up a victory on court five (6-2, 7-5).
