Women’s Tennis Splits Saturday Matches

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Women's Tennis split its pair of matches Saturday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
The Black Knights responded from a 4-0 loss to Delaware in the morning match by swiftly sweeping Marist in the second team matchup, 4-0.
Army improves to 9-5 on the season, and his won nine of its most recent 12 team matches.
Match 1 vs. Delaware
Against Delaware, Army dropped the doubles point, losing 6-3 on courts No. 1 and No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match with Jenna Sabile and Julia Kelly was not completed, with the score 4-4 at the time of halt.
Cooper Jackson took the opening set in Court No. 1 in singles. Ylan Duong won the second set on Court No. 3, forcing on a third set. However, neither match was finished before Delaware clinched its team match win.
Match 2 vs. Marist
The Black Knights quickly got on the right foot against their Hudson Valley rivals. Emily Ruckno and Emma Sy won 6-0 in No. 3 doubles and Paige Herremans and Cooper Jackson dispatched Marist on the No. 1 doubles court, 7-5, to give Army the doubles point. Paulina Feoli and Isabella Brilliant held a 5-4 lead on the No. 2 court when doubles play was halted.
In singles, Stacey Samonte set the tone with a swift 6-0, 6-0 victory on court No. 6. Herremans and Feoli each recorded 6-0 set wins in their straight set wins on courts No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.
Carolyn Ahn on court No. 3 had a 6-0 first set with as well, and led 4-1 in her second set when Army clinched the team match. Madison Smith also led on court No. 5 when Army secured the 4-0 win.
