Men's Rugby Announces 2025 Spring Schedule
January 31, 2025 | Men's Rugby
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's rugby head coach Matt Sherman has announced the Black Knights' 2025 spring schedule, featuring a competitive mix of home and road matchups, culminating in the D1A CRAA Men's Rugby Playoffs.
The Black Knights will open their spring campaign at home on Saturday, March 1, against the University of Guelph (Canada). Army will look to avenge last season's narrow 10-11 home loss to the Gryphons, who went on to finish fourth at the Canadian Nationals this fall.
One week later, on March 8, Army will remain at home to take on the University of Arizona in another exciting non-conference matchup. The Black Knights fell to Arizona 23-17 on the road last season, while the Wildcats finished the fall with a 6-2 overall record.
Army will then head west for a challenging two-game road trip, starting with a showdown against Cal Berkeley on March 15. Four days later, on March 19, the Black Knights will face Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California.
The Black Knights secured a statement 27-14 home victory over Cal last season. The Golden Bears, however, enter the matchup in strong form, having gone undefeated in both Sevens tournaments they participated in this fall. Meanwhile, Cal Poly finished the fall season on a high note, winning both of its games against in-state competition.
Postseason play begins on April 5, with the D1A CRAA Men's Rugby Playoffs continuing through May 1, when the Black Knights hope to compete for a national championship. Playoff locations will be determined by seeding.
Army is coming off an impressive 8-1 fall season and will return a wealth of talent, including multiple All-Rugby East selections. George Engels and Benji Kemp earned First-Team honors, while Howie Heller and Nate Gould were named to the Second Team. Additionally, Andrew Bardak, Gabe Savage, and Joey Knight received Honorable Mentions.
