Men’s Rugby Drops Star Match in Fall Finale
November 15, 2025 | Men's Rugby
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's rugby fell 21-16 in Saturday evening's Star Series presented by USAA matchup to the Navy Midshipmen.
The Black Knights led 13-7 at halftime and 16-7 into the final 10 minutes but surrendered a pair of late tries to seal the result at Anderson Rugby Complex.
Army finishes the nine-match fall 2025 schedule with a 7-2 overall record, and a 4-2 mark against Rugby East foes.
We’re absolutely gutted by the result. For long stretches, we played some of our best rugby of the entire year, and we’re incredibly proud of our men for that. But this is a bitter feeling—we’re not running from it. We’re taking it with us and using it. This group is relentless. We will turn this sting into fuel and come back stronger, coaching better, playing better, and being better. Our pursuit of growth doesn’t stop here; it sharpens here, said head coach Matt Sherman.
Benjamin Kemp found the try zone to open the scoring for Army in the 15', and Heller added the first of his 11 points Saturday to make it 7-0.
A pair of Heller conversions in the 30' and 38' made it 13-0, before the Mids got on the scoreboard just before halftime to cut the lead to six.
A 62' Heller penalty made it 16-7, before Navy scored tries and conversions in both the 71' and 78' to take the lead late.
The Star Series presented by USAA now stands at 4-4-1 between the academies.
