November 03, 2025 | Football
IRVING, Texas – Army West Point football's Dawson James was named American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
The sophomore kicker was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts in Army's 20-17 win over academy rival Air Force at USAFA Saturday. He made a 44-yard kick in the second quarter, which was one yard shy of his career-high. Then, as time expired in the fourth quarter, he knocked a 27-yard kick between the uprights to secure the win.
The native of Waxhaw, N.C., was also 2-for-2 on PATs.
Army has won seven of the last nine meetings against Air Force (2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025), defeating Air Force for the third straight season, marking its first three-game streak in the series since 1976-78.
Saturday represented the first leg of Army's quest to reclaim the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, the annual rivalry series contested among the three U.S. service academies. The Black Knights will have a chance to win back the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy on December 13 vs. Navy in Baltimore, Md.
Army returns home to play Temple on November 8, with a 12:00 p.m. kick at Michie Stadium.
