Women’s Tennis Splits Weekend Results

WEST POINT, N.Y. & FORT MOORE, Ga. – Army West Point Women's Tennis went 1-1 on the weekend, sweeping Vassar 7-0 Friday afternoon before dropping a close dual vs. Mercer at Fort Moore in Georgia on Sunday.

Against Vassar, Jenna Sabile and Julia Kelly improved to 10-5 in the season in doubles, Ylan Duong and Naomi Widiaman won their first collective match as doubles partners and Alexandra Oshidar and Stacey Samonte capped off a perfect afternoon in doubles.

Sabile improved to 3-1 on the season in No. 1 singles matches, prevailing 11-9 in a super tiebreak after racing out to a 6-0 first set win.

Singles courts 2-6 Friday were decided in straight sets.

Against Mercer at Fort Moore, Army prevailed in doubles, with a 7-6 (5) win from Isabella Brilliant and Madison Smith, and a 6-2 win from Vennmukiil Mathivanan and Allison Harris.

Isabella Brilliant moved to 10-3 in singles with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court No. 6. Vennmukiil Mathivanan claimed victory on court No. 2, prevailing in a lengthy set one tiebreak before winning the second set, 6-4.

The dual match would come down to the No. 3 singles match, but Emily Ruckno dropped a hard-fought, three set match 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
