No. 23 Women's Lacrosse Downs Marist on Road, 16-6

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - No. 23 Army West Point women's lacrosse (2-0, 0-0 Patriot League) went on the road to defeat Marist (0-3, 0-0 MAAC) by a score fo 16-6 on Wednesday afternoon from Tanney Stadium.
Junior midfielder Brigid Duffy set the all-time program points record with her 182nd career point in the second quarter which came off her first goal of the game. Duffy finished with seven points in total behind four goals and three assists to put herself at 187 career points, now six ahead of Kathleen Sullivan '23 who held the record with 181. Duffy added a game-high five ground balls and nine draw controls as Army won the draw 14-10 for the game.
Junior attack Allison Reilly had a six-point effort to help the attack as well, totaling four assists and three ground balls. Senior midfielder Gabrielle Mirak also recorded a multi-goal effort, with a pair of scores in the first quarter.
Junior Lindsey Serafine had a strong effort in goal for the Black Knights, making seven saves while allowing six goals with four ground balls while playing 57-plus minutes of the contest before ceding the final few to sophomore Anderson Strange.
Sophomore Geneva Milch Cesoni made her collegiate debut in a return from an injury which kept her out of the 2024 campaign, as she netted a pair of goals in the third quarter.Â
Army blitzed the Red Foxes with a goal less than 20 seconds in from Chloe Garrett who took her one-on-one matchup to the hole and scored her fourth of the season. Army never looked back as Serafine pitched a shutout through the opening 15, making saves on all three shots faced. Mirak added a pair while Ryan Remaly got her second of the year as Army led 4-0 after a comfortable first quarter.
The early scoring continued as this time Garrett found Lily Valentini in the opening possession of the second quarter, pushing it to a 5-0 Army advantage. Marist got on the board at the 11:01 mark in the second with a woman-up goal but Army went on 3-0 spurt to extend the lead back to 8-1. Reilly and Duffy added the first two before Sarah Chernik intercepted an errant pass in Army's defensive end and took it the length of the field before scoring her first goal of the season.
In the closing minutes of the half, plebe Paige Moretti scored her first career goal on a free-position attempt to send the Black Knights into the locker room with a 9-2 lead. Army outshot the Red Foxes 23-8 in the opening half as Serafine logged five saves on seven shots faced.
The pace slowed to begin the second half before Milch Cesoni got on the board midway through the frame with her first two career goals coming less than a minute apart as Duffy provided the assist on each. Duffy then notched her second of the game at the 5:32 mark to make it a 12-2 contest, as Army eventually went into the fourth with a 12-3 advantage.Â
Duffy continued her dominant play with two more goals in the first half of the fourth quarter, as Army's ten-plus goal lead allowed the clock to tick down further. Army's final goal marked the third Black Knight of the game to register their first career goal as Kate Gallagher got on the board as Reilly provided her third assist of the quarter on the 16th tally.
Army improved to 6-1 all-time against the Red Foxes and is now 2-0 for the fifth time in the program's ten-year history.
Army will have a quick turnaround to host Siena on Saturday from Michie Stadium with opening draw set for 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
