WEST POINT, N.Y. — Lee Anderson Head Men's Basketball Coach Kevin Kuwik announced his coaching staff for the 124th season of Army men's basketball.
Jarren Dyson and Nick Thorsen have been promoted to associate head coach, and Will Louis and Brandon Newsome have been added as assistant coaches. They will join assistant coach Bryan Joel in guiding the Black Knights for the 2025-26 season.
"I could not be more excited about this group of coaches and what they will bring to our young men both on and off the court," Kuwik said. "They are passionate about coaching and the game of basketball, they have a high level of care for our players and program, and most importantly, they work extremely well together. We cannot wait to get going with Team 124."
Thorsen and Dyson are veteran assistants who worked with Kuwik during his first two seasons at West Point, helping the Black Knights to a 17-16 overall record and 10-8 mark in Patriot League play in 2024-25.
The 10-8 conference finish tied the program's best in league play. The Black Knights were also the only Patriot League team that season to defeat a Group of Five opponent, edging the UTSA Roadrunners of the American Athletic Conference 78-75.
The 2024-25 squad earned a postseason berth in the College Basketball Invitational, where its opening-round win over Elon marked the program's first postseason tournament victory in 55 years.
"Nick and JD are well-rounded assistant coaches who bring so much to our program," Kuwik said. "Including his time as head coach at USMAPS, Nick has been an integral part of our program for a decade and has forged great relationships with our current and former players. JD's previous experience in the league at Lafayette, as well as being on a national championship-winning staff at Christopher Newport, has been invaluable. These guys are the total package when it comes to recruiting, development and game preparation — and most importantly, they are great people. They are both more than ready to take the next step as head coaches, and this promotion is well-earned."

Alongside the promotions, Kuwik announced the addition of Louis and Newsome.
This will be Louis' first collegiate assistant coaching job. He comes to West Point after working for the Hoop Group since 2022, most recently as lead director of Hoop Group Elite Camps and assistant director for the Hoop Group Showcase and Academic Leagues.
Newsome joins Army after two seasons as an assistant coach for NCAA Division III powerhouse New York University, where he helped lead the Violets to an NCAA Division III championship appearance. He previously coached at Wheaton College and SUNY Canton.
"I am very excited to add Brandon and Will to our staff," Kuwik said. "Brandon is a veteran assistant coach who has worked his tail off to earn this opportunity at the Division I level. At every stop, he has helped his program reach great heights, and I look forward to him bringing that dedication here. Will is a grinder who has thrown himself into this profession and proven he is willing to do any job asked of him. I am excited to watch him begin his coaching journey."
