Army West Point Athletics

November 05, 2026 | Athletics
Dear Army West Point Community,
November is here, and what an exciting time to be at West Point!
As the fall season continues, our cadet-athletes are competing for championships, our winter sports are underway, and our football team is preparing for another important Commander-in-Chief's Trophy matchup.
But this weekend represents something much bigger than athletics.
With FOX Big Noon Kickoff, Army Football against Air Force on CBS, and FOX NFL Sunday all coming to West Point, the United States Military Academy will be on display for millions of Americans across the country.
Three national broadcasts. Two days. One extraordinary institution.
As we approach Veterans Day, there could not be a more fitting opportunity to showcase our cadets, honor those who have served, and share the West Point story with the Nation.
There is plenty to celebrate across Army Athletics. Here are a few highlights from the past two weeks.
ALL EYES ON WEST POINT!
What an extraordinary weekend we have ahead of us!
For the first time, West Point will welcome both FOX Big Noon Kickoff and FOX NFL Sunday, bringing two of the most recognizable shows in sports television to the grounds of the United States Military Academy.
It's often said that athletics has the unique ability to serve as the front porch to an institution. For many Americans, their first introduction to West Point may not come through a classroom, an admissions presentation, or a visit to our historic campus. It may come through watching an Army Football game on national television.
In college athletics, we often talk about the "Doug Flutie Effect" - the extraordinary exposure and institutional interest that can follow athletic success. But at West Point, I believe the opportunity is even greater.
Athletics gives us a platform to do more than compete. It gives us a platform to educate, inspire, and tell the West Point story.
Events like FOX Big Noon Kickoff serve as a national commercial for the United States Military Academy. They allow us to showcase our extraordinary cadets, our world-class leader development mission, our rich history and traditions, and the incredible people who make this institution so special.
Millions may tune in for football, but our hope is that they leave with a greater understanding and appreciation of West Point and the young men and women who have chosen to serve our Nation.
This is precisely why Public Engagement and Revenue Generation is a key pillar of our Fruits of Victory strategic plan. The impact of Army Athletics extends far beyond wins and losses. We have a responsibility to leverage our national platform to elevate the Academy, connect with new audiences, and strengthen the relationship between West Point and the American public.
As we approach Veterans Day, there could not be a more meaningful time to share that story.
I want to sincerely thank the many individuals across the Academy, our athletics department, and our partners at FOX and CBS who have worked tirelessly to make this historic weekend possible.
The games bring people to our front porch. What they discover is what makes West Point extraordinary.
ARMY FOOTBALL - BEAT AIR FORCE - WEAR BLACK!
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
There is nothing quite like service academy football, and Saturday night's matchup with Air Force will be another special chapter in this historic rivalry.
Our Black Knights continue to demonstrate the toughness, grit, and determination that define Army Football.
One of the most exciting moments of the season came in Tulsa, where our team earned a thrilling 38–35 victory behind a 50-yard game-winning field goal from Dawson Jones.
While our recent trip to Memphis did not produce the result we wanted, I have tremendous confidence in Coach Monken, our coaching staff, and our team as we prepare for this important rivalry game.
We are also excited to debut new stadium lighting features at Michie Stadium Preserved by USAA, adding another dimension to what is already one of the most unique game-day experiences in college football.
To our fans, cadets, graduates, and the entire West Point community: We need you Saturday night!
Let's create an atmosphere worthy of the national stage.
Go Army! Beat Air Force!
COMPETITIVE EXCELLENCE – CHAMPIONSHIPS AND STARS!
What an incredible stretch for several of our programs!
Women's Cross Country – Four Straight!
Congratulations to Coach Mike Smith and our Women's Cross Country team on capturing their fourth consecutive Patriot League Championship!
Our Black Knights edged Boston University 50–55 in a tightly contested race, with senior Mikayla Cheney finishing second overall and junior Mia Royall placing third.
This championship follows the program's fourth consecutive Army–Navy Star victory. What a remarkable run of sustained excellence!
Our Men's Cross Country team also delivered a strong performance, finishing third at the Patriot League Championships.
Women's Rugby – Beat Navy!
Another Star for the Black and Gold!
Congratulations to our Women's Rugby team on an impressive 36–5 victory over Navy in Annapolis.
There is something special about beating Navy, and our cadet-athletes delivered another outstanding performance against our greatest rival.
Women's Soccer – Patriot League Champions!
Congratulations to our Women's Soccer program on earning a share of the Patriot League regular-season championship!
The Black Knights secured the accomplishment with a 1–0 victory over Loyola Maryland, while tying the program's single-season shutout record.
Another tremendous example of competitive excellence across our department.
HOCKEY – NATIONALLY RANKED!
What an incredible start to the season for Army Hockey!
Our Black Knights have earned a No. 19 national ranking in the USCHO Division I Men's Hockey Poll, following an impressive start to the season.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Zach McKelvie, our team has opened Atlantic Hockey America competition undefeated, earned consecutive conference sweeps, and delivered a thrilling overtime victory on the road against nationally ranked Quinnipiac.
Adding to the excitement, JJ Cataldo was named Atlantic Hockey America Goaltender of the Month following his outstanding performances between the pipes.
This is a tremendous accomplishment for our cadet-athletes, coaches, and everyone associated with Army Hockey. National rankings are earned through hard work, preparation, and a commitment to excellence.
Congratulations to Coach McKelvie and our Black Knights. Let's keep the momentum going!
BASKETBALL IS BACK – AND A SPECIAL VISIT FROM COACH K!
Basketball season is officially underway, and we recently had the extraordinary privilege of welcoming legendary Hall of Fame coach and West Point graduate Mike Krzyzewski, better known as Coach K, back to the Academy.
Coach K represents so much of what makes West Point special. His journey from cadet-athlete to one of the most accomplished coaches in basketball history is a powerful reminder of the leadership foundation developed at this institution.
We are grateful for his continued connection to West Point and the opportunity for our basketball programs to learn from one of the greatest leaders in sports.
On the court, our Women's Basketball team opened its season with an impressive 81–28 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Maggie Dixon Day, honoring an important part of our basketball program's history.
Our Men's Basketball program opened against No. 2 Duke, providing another opportunity to compete on the national stage.
I encourage our entire West Point community to get behind both programs this season. Let's make Christl Arena one of the best home-court environments in the Patriot League!
SPRINT FOOTBALL – A SPECIAL SEASON!
What a season for Army Sprint Football!
Our Black Knights remain undefeated following another impressive victory over D'Youville.
This comes after a historic milestone for Head Coach Mark West, who became the winningest coach in program history following Army's victory over St. Thomas Aquinas.
Coach West has built an outstanding program defined by discipline, consistency, and competitive excellence.
Congratulations to Coach West, our cadet-athletes, and the entire Sprint Football program!
REPRESENTING WEST POINT AT THE INAUGURAL GSV SPORTS SUMMIT
Last week, I had the honor of representing the United States Military Academy as a panelist at the inaugural GSV Sports Summit, focused on "Rebooting the American Dream" through college and youth sports.
I joined an outstanding group of leaders, including Mike Tirico, Arne Duncan, Craig Robinson, and Candice Storey Lee, for a conversation about the role athletics can play in advancing the American Dream.
It was an opportunity to share what makes West Point and our mission so special.
At a time when the landscape of college athletics continues to evolve, I believe institutions like West Point have an important story to tell.
Athletics can open doors, create opportunity, teach accountability, and develop leaders. But at West Point, those lessons are not simply preparing our cadet-athletes for success in sports. They are preparing them for a lifetime of service and leadership.
We are not just developing better athletes. We are developing leaders of character who will serve something greater than themselves.
I left the summit even more convinced of the extraordinary value of our mission and the responsibility we have to share it with audiences across the country.
It was a privilege to represent West Point and Army Athletics on this national stage.
INTRODUCING THE 1890 SOCIETY AND ENHANCEMENTS TO THE ARMY A CLUB – INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE!
We are excited to announce the launch of the 1890 Society, a new philanthropic giving society recognizing transformational investments in Army West Point Athletics.
The name honors an important milestone in our history. In 1890, West Point fielded its first intercollegiate athletics programs in baseball and football, beginning a tradition of competitive excellence that continues more than 135 years later.
As the landscape of college athletics continues to evolve, philanthropic support has never been more important.
The 1890 Society provides an opportunity for our graduates, families, and supporters to make a lasting impact on all 30 varsity programs and the extraordinary cadet-athletes who represent West Point.
We also recently announced new Army A Club membership levels for 2027, designed to simplify the member experience, enhance benefits, and better recognize the generosity and loyalty of our supporters.
Additionally, Army A Club members can now view their priority points directly through their online accounts, providing greater transparency and convenience.
These initiatives represent another important step toward building a sustainable foundation for the future of Army Athletics.
There is no greater investment than an investment in our cadet-athletes — the future leaders of the United States Army.
To everyone who supports the Army A Club, thank you. Your generosity makes an extraordinary difference in our ability to compete for championships while developing leaders of character.
I encourage you to learn more about the 1890 Society and our new membership opportunities. Together, we are preserving our proud tradition while investing in an even stronger future.

BEYOND THE FIELDS OF FRIENDLY STRIFE
One of the things that makes Army Athletics so special is that our cadet-athletes are pursuing excellence in every aspect of their West Point experience.
Recently, our cross country programs earned six All-Patriot League selections and two Academic All-League honors.
Across our department, cadet-athletes continue to distinguish themselves through academic achievement, military development, and athletic competition.
That is what makes our mission different.
Our cadet-athletes are not simply preparing for their next competition. They are preparing to lead soldiers, serve our Nation, and make a difference long after their playing careers conclude.
We are developing leaders of character who will lead when it matters most.
THANK YOU, ARMY WEST POINT COMMUNITY!
As we approach Veterans Day, I have been reflecting on what a privilege it is to serve at the United States Military Academy.
Every day, we are surrounded by extraordinary people who have committed themselves to something greater than their own individual success.
Our cadets embrace difficult challenges. Our coaches develop leaders of character. Our staff works tirelessly to create an extraordinary Division I experience. And our graduates, fans, donors, and supporters continue to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to this institution.
The national attention coming to West Point this weekend is exciting, but what makes this place special happens every day, often far away from the cameras.
That is the story we have the privilege of telling.
As always, I encourage you to continue supporting our programs by attending competitions, joining the Army A Club, and introducing others to the extraordinary experiences available at West Point.
Every ticket purchased, every Army A Club membership, every gift, and every person in the stands makes a difference.
We have much to be proud of, and even more to look forward to.
See you Saturday night at Michie Stadium!
Go Army! Beat Air Force!
