Men’s Tennis Drops Midweek Contest to Monmouth

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team got off to a strong start in doubles play but was unable to carry that success into singles play, as it fell 4-1 to Monmouth on Wednesday night at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Army (7-2) showed impressive grit in the doubles portion of the match, as Monmouth (6-0) opened action with a 6-2 win at No. 2. The Black Knights would need to secure the other two matches to take the early 1-0 lead, and that is exactly what they did.
Matias Feoli and Jimin Jung put together a 7-6 (5) victory in the top spot and just moments later, Tucker Culpepper and Marcus Sebastian clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (2) win at No. 3.
Monmouth evened things back up at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4. The Hawks took their first lead of the night with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1. Monmouth got within a point of the team victory with a 7-6 (7), 6-1 win at No 6.
The Hawks claimed the team win with a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-2 win at No. 5.

Army is back in action this Saturday with a contest against FDU at 4 p.m. On Sunday, it will face off against Quinnipiac at 5 p.m.
