WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team closed out its weekend of competition with a pair of wins over Lamar and Hofstra on Sunday afternoon at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Army 4, Lamar 2
Army (12-5) got off to a strong start on Sunday morning, as it won the doubles point to take the crucial 1-0 advantage in the match. Marcus Sebastian and Tucker Culpepper started the day with a 6-2 win at No. 3. Lamar responded with a 6-3 win in the top spot.
The doubles point came down to the No. 2 spot, where Jimin Jung and Matias Feoli prevailed with a 6-3 win.
Alan Ton added to Army's lead by opening singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3. Feoli got Army within on point of the match victory with a straight set, 6-2, 6-4, win at No. 4.
Trailing 3-0, Lamar recorded a pair of wins at No. 5 and No. 6 to get back into the match and cut Army's lead to 3-2.
Jung came up huge for the Black Knights at No. 2, clinching the match with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback win.
Army 4, Hofstra 0
Due to roster constraints for Hofstra, the two teams opened with singles play where Hofstra had to forfeit a pair of matches, giving Army a 2-0 lead.
The Black Knights extended the lead to 3-0 with a Hofstra retirement at No. 3, which gave Daniel Choi the win before the first set concluded. Army sealed the deal at No. 1, where Ton won 6-1, 6-3.
