Women’s Rugby Falls to LIU in Saturday Bout

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Army West Point women's rugby fell to the LIU Sharks on Saturday morning in a hard-fought loss by a score of 38-36. The Black Knight scored 31 points in the first half which is the most in a first half this season so far. In the victory, Chloe de Leon scored four tries, all in the first half.
The Black Knights struck first on de Leon's first try of the match to take a 5-0 lead five minutes into the match and Leila Galarza added a conversion a minute later to make it 7-0. LIU struck with a try of their own at 9:34 to make it 7-5. The Black Knights scored 24 unanswered points with three tries from de Leon, a try from Molly Kennedy and a conversion from Galarza and Emily Vizcarra, each to make it 31-5. LIU scored the eventual final points of the first half at 38:37 with a try and conversion to make it 31-12 going into the halftime break.
Starting the second half, LIU scored a try and conversion to make it 31-19 at 8:53 before Army secured a try in response from Karlee Richards at 13:42. The Sharks scored the final 19 points of the match to secure a victory by a score of 36-38.
