- Title:
- Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
Cody Worley enters his sixth season on the Army coaching staff and second as the offensive coordinator in 2025.
Worley originally joined the staff as the team’s quarterbacks coach in 2020.
In his first season as the offensive coordinator in 2024, Worley orchestrated one of the best offensive seasons in program history. Worley’s offense placed first in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 300.5 yards per game, first nationally in time of possession, and second nationally in passing yards per completion (17.09). Army’s 300.5 rushing yards per game average was the best mark for the Black Knights since 2018, averaging 312.5 yards per game. Army became just the fifth FBS team since 2000 to run for 200+ rushing yards and 2+ rushing touchdowns in each of its first 12 games.
Army’s 4,207 total rushing yards, including 1,659 yards from senior quarterback Bryson Daily, rank fourth in program history and are one of only six times an Army team has rushed for 4,000 or more yards in a season.
His unit was led by Daily, who emerged as one of the top players in the nation, leading the NCAA with 32 rushing TDs, the most ever in a season by a quarterback. Daily shattered long-standing Army program records such as touchdowns responsible for in a season, rushing touchdowns in a season, and rushing touchdowns in a single game on his way to finishing sixth place in the Heisman voting, Army’s highest finisher in the esteemed award since Pete Dawkins won in 1958. Daily took home AAC Offensive Player of the Year honors and was ranked as the No. 39 college football player out of 100 for the 2024 season by ESPN.
Paving the way for Daily was the best offensive line in the country. Worley’s starting five of senior LT Connor Finucane, sophomore LG Paolo Gennarelli, sophomore C Brady Small, senior RG Bill Katsigiannis, and senior RT Lucas Scott were recipients of the Joe Moore Award, given to the most outstanding offensive line unit in college football. This historic achievement marked the first time a unit from a military academy or the Group of 5 has received this prestigious honor. Army managed to still lead the nation in rushing despite facing the highest percentage of plays (80.2%) with eight or more defenders stacked against them in the box. The offensive line’s consistency and execution were unmatched, allowing the fewest percentage of rushes for zero or negative yards (11.0%) since 2020 by an FBS team.
Daily’s 1,659 rushing yards led the offensive rushing attack and were the second most by a player in an Army season, only bested by Ahmad Bradshaw (2017, 1,746). Army’s 48 rushing touchdowns as a team rank second in program history (2017, 50).
One of Worley’s highlights came in October when the offense was firing on all cylinders, scoring 40 or more points in four consecutive games (Temple, Tulsa, UAB, and East Carolina). It was the first time Army accomplished this feat since 1945.
Worley and his unit made their mark by capitalizing and striking early in games. Army began the season by scoring an opening drive touchdown in the first seven games. Additionally, Army became just the third FBS team to score a touchdown on each of its first two possessions through four games of a season over the last 20 seasons, joining Tulsa (2008) and Baylor (2013).
In January 2024, Worley was promoted to offensive coordinator while still serving as the quarterbacks coach.
Before the 2023 season, Worley was promoted to run game coordinator/quarterbacks.
In 2023, Worley oversaw the development of junior quarterback Bryson Daily, who started 10 games and played in 11 for the Black Knights, becoming only the second Army QB to rush and pass for over 900 yards in a season, joining Kelvin Hopkins Jr. (2018). Daily accounted for a team-high 14 touchdowns (seven rushing, seven passing). Daily passed for 913 yards and seven TDs and rushed for a team-high 901 yards and seven TDs. Daily’s best performance came in a victory over Air Force when he finished with 170 rushing yards (the most vs. Air Force since Ahmad Bradshaw's 265 yards in 2017) and had two rushing scores to become one of four Army players to rush for over 150 yards and rush for two touchdowns vs. Air Force (since 1996), joining Carlton Jones (2004, 213 yards, two TDs), Michael Wallace (2000, 201 yards, three TDs) and Joseph Hewitt (1996, 161 yards, two TDs). Daily was also the first Army ballcarrier to rush for 150+ yards in a game and two touchdowns since Christian Anderson did so in 2021 vs. Miami (Ohio).
Daily's 170 rushing yards were the most vs. Air Force since Ahmad Bradshaw's 265 yards in 2017.
In 2022, Worley helped the Army quarterbacks set several record-breaking marks, including passing for the first 300-yard game vs. UTSA since 2007. Additionally, Army completed touchdown passes of 54 yards and 73 yards at Coastal Carolina. It was the first time since 2002, that Army had completed two touchdown passes over 54 yards in the same game. Following the season, senior quarterback Tyhier Tyler was named Second Team Phil Steele All-Independent, rushing for a career-best 663 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also threw for 301 yards and two passing touchdowns.
In 2021, Worley aided Senior Christian Anderson to his best season at West Point, totaling career bests in rushing yards (619), rushing TDs (8), passing yards (713), passing yards per attempt (11.3), and passing TDs (5).
In his first season with the Black Knights in 2020, Worley helped bring stability to a position that saw five different players start a game. The quarterback room was decimated by injuries a season ago, but thanks to the veteran leadership of Worley and his staff, Army’s QB room led the squad to a 9-3 record and its third Commander in Chief Trophy in the past four seasons.
Worley coached a group of signal callers that helped Army finish as the fourth-best rushing offense in the country after averaging 273 yards per game in 2020. His group of QBs also helped Army start the season 6-1, which was just the fourth time in program history a team won six of its first seven contests.
Under his guidance, Tyhier Tyler became an All-Independent talent and led the Cadets to five wins, including two over service academy rivals Air Force and Navy.
Worley came to West Point after a six-year stint at Kennesaw State, where he was the quarterbacks coach.
In 2019, Kennesaw State had the No. 1 FCS rushing offense, having averaged 342.4 yards per game. The Owls quarterbacks additionally averaged 21.4 yards per completion, which was also the highest in the nation. Under Worley’s mentorship, Chandler Burks has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, earning back-to-back Big South Offensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades in 2017 and 2018, the first player in conference history to earn both awards in the same season. He also became the first player in league history to finish with both 1,000 yards rushing and passing during the 2017 campaign.
A runner-up for the 2018 Walter Payton Award, Burks led all Division I (FCS or FBS) rushers with 29 touchdowns on the ground to tie the Big South single-season record. He led the FCS in scoring (174 points) and points responsible for (18.3 per game) while ranked fourth in the Big South for rushing yards (905), total offense (149.8 yards/game).
Worley also mentored the development of reserve QB Daniel David, who stepped in to log 31 completions for 629 yards and five touchdowns while accounting for 388 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground. In 2017, David was crucial in securing a road win over Duquesne, helping lead the Owls to a comeback victory after Burks was hurt in the first half.
In the 2016 season, Kennesaw State’s quarterback trio of Burks, White, and David accounted for 1,100 rushing, 18 rushing TDs, 1,719 yards passing, and 17 passing TDs with just six interceptions.
The Owls also received major production from the B-back position with Jake McKenzie racking up 415 yards on the ground in 2018, finishing his career with 1,932 total yards.
Worley came to Kennesaw State staff after coaching the quarterbacks and B-backs at The Citadel in 2013. He served the previous two years (2011 and 2012) as the Bulldogs’ quality control coach.
During the 2013 season, Worley mentored senior quarterback Ben Dupree, who surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark while tying The Citadel’s single-season touchdown record of 21 after rushing for 18 scores and passing for three. His 18 rushing touchdowns were a single-season record by a quarterback.
Worley was also instrumental in developing senior B-back Darien Robinson into a 2013 TSN second-team All-America selection. Robinson led the Bulldogs with 183 receiving yards and was second on the team with two touchdown receptions. He rushed for 987 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Worley played collegiately at Furman, where, as a senior in 2010, he threw for 1,496 yards and accounted for 19 touchdowns. He merited a spot on the Southern Conference’s Academic Honor Roll in 2007-08 and received his bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Furman in December 2010.
He completed work on a master’s certification in health, exercise, and sport sciences from The Citadel in July 2012.
Worley and his wife, Adrienne, were married on April 11, 2015. They reside at West Point with their two daughters, Parker (6) and Reese (4), and their son, Rollins.
