Ian Moore enters his second season with the Army West Point men's lacrosse team since he joined the coaching staff in June 2025.
The Black Knights put on a show in Moore's first season with the team, tallying a 13-4 record to tie for the most wins in a single season in program history en route to claiming the 2026 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Championship and earning their 17th Patriot League Regular Season title. The Black Knights returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2026 as Army traveled to University Park to take on Penn State in the first round. Army delivered commanding performances throughout the season including in the 2026 Star Game where the Black Knights delivered a thrilling 14-9 win in front of a crowd of over 15,000 – the highest attendance at a regular season college lacrosse game in 2026 – to claim their 40th victory over the Mids. Army saw Sean Byrne earn the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award Turnbull Award, Evan Plunkett earn the first LT J.G. Donald MacLaughlin Award in program history, five USILA All-Americans, four Inside Lacrosse All-Americans, and four USA Lacrosse All-Americans. Byrne, Plunkett, and John Sullivan earned Patriot League major awards with six Black Knights claiming spots on the 2026 All-Patriot League teams. Army's squad put in hard work both on and off the field as the Black Knights saw several members recognized for academic success, highlighted by Gunnar Fellows’ Academic All-Patriot League Team and Drew Miller’s College Sport Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Moore, a New Jersey native, arrived at West Point with over 10 years of collegiate coaching experience, having served on the men’s lacrosse staffs at Arcadia University, Ursinus College, Lafayette College, and Ohio State. Most recently, he spent four seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at UMass Lowell.
As an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at UMass Lowell, he helped the River Hawks earn a trio of All-America East Team selections, coached the team to top five all-time program statistics rankings in nine categories, and grew the team’s success in the classroom. Moore has a strong background in collegiate men’s lacrosse, as he spent time with the Ohio State, Lafayette, and Ursinus College men’s lacrosse coaching staffs prior to his time at UMass Lowell.
Prior to his years with UMass Lowell, Moore spent a year with Ohio State as a volunteer assistant coach. He helped coach the Buckeyes to a 2022 NCAA Tournament berth, a USILA All-American Honorable Mention, and the Ohio State all-time program records for career faceoff wins and ground balls.
As a player, Moore played at Ursinus College where he served as team captain and helped lead the Bears to their first appearance in the Centennial Conference Championships, earn a national ranking of 12th, and secure the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance and subsequent victory in 2015.
Over his four seasons with the Bears, Moore totaled 36 goals and 49 points, picked up a total of 51 ground balls, and recorded seven caused turnovers. He ranked fourth on the team in total goals as a senior, helping push the Bears to their first NCAA Tournament appearance where they defeated Cabrini University before falling 10-9 to Gettysburg College in double-overtime.
