Army Drops Star Meet at Navy
October 18, 2014 | Men's Cross Country
Navy placed nine of the 10 top finishers. Cody Barger finished second for the Black Knights, taking 11th overall with a time of 29:25.40. Finishing as Army's No. 3 runner was Matthew Bearden who took 15th with a time of 26:07.78
"We were beaten by a better team today," head coach Mike Smith. "Our guys competed hard out there and did the best that they could, we were just overmatched. If there was a bright spot, it was Tommy Girardot. He really showed some of the grit that it takes to be a good cross country runner. We will get better, we have no choice."
Trevor Lafontaine and Drew Beck rounded out the Black Knights' top five, taking 16th and 17th places, respectively.
With the win, Navy now leads the all-time series 47-29-1. They have captured the victory in five of the last six outings.
This was the final regular season competition for the Black Knights who will head into postseason play in two weeks. The Patriot League Championships, hosted by Lehigh, will be held on Nov.1, with the NCAA Regionals to follow from Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. on Nov. 14. NCAA Championships will wrap up the season from Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22.
