October 31, 2015 | Women's Soccer
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Maddie Loos' goal early in the second half sent Bucknell to a 1-0 victory over the Army West Point women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Emmitt Field. The result eliminated the Black Knights from postseason contention.
After playing a scoreless opening half, the Bison scored less than five minutes into the second period when Loos beat Army goalkeeper Jordan Cassalia for her third goal of the season. Assists were credited to Cora Climo and Alexis Gannon on the play.
The Black Knights nearly broke the ice in the 37th minute when freshman Sydney Witham had a shot go off the post. Witham's strike came after classmate Samantha Sullenger ripped consecutive chances that were blocked away by the Bucknell defense.
Each team recorded six shots apiece in the first 45 minutes and went into the locker room deadlocked. Cassalia had one save on a shot by Gannon in the sixth minute, while Bucknell's Jessica Ratner made two before intermission.
After Loos' marker, the Black Knights tried to find an equalizer. Hanna Rozzi's shot missed frame in the 52nd minute and then Army earned consecutive corner kicks, the second of which Witham had a shot saved by Ratner.
Army was unable to find a tying goal as Ratner finished the day with three saves for her Patriot League best 10th shutout of the season.
The Black Knights close the 2015 campaign with a 4-12-2 and a 2-5-2 Patriot League record. Bucknell enters the Patriot League Tournament with a 10-5-3 mark and a 6-1-2 record in Patriot League play. The Bison also extended their unbeaten streak to eight straight matches (6-0-2).
