October 31, 2015 | Women's Cross Country
HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Madison Hill led the way for the Army West Point women's cross country team with a sixth place individual finish at the Patriot League Championships at Colgate and as a team the Black Knights finished fifth overall with 125 points.
Bucknell took home the team title with 34 points, while Navy finished second with 51 points. The defending champions, Boston University, place third with 104 points. Army ended up with an average time of 22:34 on the 6K course. The Bison saw three of its runners finish in the top four en route to the title.
"We had some great individual performances today, but our lack of depth prevented us from finishing higher," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "Madison Hill ran the best race of her career finishing sixth. Lindsay and Abby really finished strong in the top-20, but plebe Payton Padgett was a big surprise."
Hill was the top finisher for Army with a time of 21:39.9 and an average mile of 5:48.1. The Leachtown, W. Va, native earned a spot on the All-Patriot League 1st-Team after battling through injuries in her senior campaign.
Freshman Abby Halbrook finished 15th overall with a time of 22:13.9 while senior captain Lindsay Gabow was the Black Knights' No. 3 runner. She finished 19th at 22:19.9. Also scoring for Army was freshman Payton Padgett, who has scored in her last five races. She crossed the finish line at 22:25.6, good enough for 22 place. Rounding out Army's top-five was freshman Sarah Jeon who finished 79th completing the course in 24:13.7.
The Black Knights return to action on Friday, Nov. 13, when they head to Boston for NCAA Regionals.
