Men's Tennis Defeats FDU for Third Straight Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army men’s tennis team collected its third consecutive victory on Friday afternoon, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1, at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
The Black Knights, who improve to 3-3 after the win, swept doubles competition to include an 8-3 victory by the pairing of senior Alex Van Velzer and sophomore Sam Lampman at the No. 1 position. Junior Harrison McCormick and sophomore Grant Riechmann teamed up for an 8-5 win over Fairleigh Dickinson sophomore Jacob Whalley and freshman Adam Chan at No. 2 and junior Austin McCasin and sophomore Kyle Barnes collected an 8-2 victory at the third doubles slot to send the Black Knights into singles play with a 1-0 lead in the match.
Army took five of the six singles matches, with Van Velzer, Riechmann and McCasin tallying wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions, respectively. Van Velzer downed Whalley, 6-1, 6-2, while Riechmann got past Chan, 6-3, 7-5. McCasin registered a 6-4, 6-3 victory over sophomore Gonzalo Quintana at No. 4 and freshmen Michael Nguyen and Daniel Zheng posted triumphs from the fifth and sixth singles spots, respectively.
Army plays three more matches at Lichtenberg Tennis Center this weekend, beginning with a battle against Quinnipiac on Saturday at 9 a.m.
