Gymnastics Earns Second at All-Academy Championships

HOUSTON, Texas – Competing at the All-Academy Championships against service academy rivals Air Force and Navy, the Army men’s gymnastics team claimed second place, besting Navy for the second time this season.
Army posted a team score of 413.000 on the afternoon. Air Force claimed first for the fifth consecutive year with a score of 427.750 and Navy rounded out the trio with a score of 410.200.
The Black Knights’ team score is their second highest of the season, falling just short of the season-high 416.150 earned at the West Point Open.
In the event’s 14-year history, Army now boasts seven first place finishes, two second place finishes and five third place nods.
Jesse Glenn finished second in the all-around competition, posting a score of 83.850.
The Black Knights posted a team victory on the high bar, avoiding an Air Force team sweep. On the apparatus, Glenn took first overall with a mark of 14.650 and was followed by Leo Genders in second with a mark of 14.300 and Nathan Goff in third with a career-best score of 14.250.
The team’s score of 69.800 on high bar marked a season best for the Black Knights.
On floor exercise, the Black Knights tied a season-best team mark of 72.050 led by a third place finish from Sam Kunitz. The sophomore posted a season-best score of 14.750 en route to his second top five finish of the year.
Glenn placed seventh on the apparatus with a mark of 14.550 and Genders took eighth with a score of 14.500.
Chris Short led the way for Army on pommel horse with an eighth place score of 13.900. The mark tied his career high set against Springfield in 2014. Goff rounded out the top 10 with a score of 13.600.
On still rings, Glenn was the only Black Knight to crack the top 10, posting a season-best score of 13.900 to tie for seventh place. The team finished with a score of 67.500 on the apparatus.
Army placed two in the top 10 on vault with Joe Pritts earning seventh with a score of 14.450 and Glenn taking ninth with a score of 14.350. As a team, Army earned a mark of 70.400.
Short claimed his second top 10 finish of the afternoon on parallel bars, posting a score of 13.700 to tie for sixth place. Goff earned a mark of 13.300 and a tie for 10th.
The Black Knights will return to Gross Sports Center on Saturday, Feb. 14 for the annual Star Meet with rival Navy. Action will get underway at 1 p.m. and the meet will be broadcast live on Knight Vision.
