LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Looking to gain some additional experience before championship season gets underway, the Army women's track & field team traveled four athletes to the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
"We added this meet to our schedule to give some of our people an additional opportunity to improve some conference seed times and to sharpen our technique as we near the championship season," said head coach Mike Smith. "We lucked out with the weather as the conditions were ideal today and pretty nice last night. We largely brought our middle distance group and a few others and we had some nice improvements from quite a few athletes."
In the 400m hurdles, Courtney Smith placed fourth with an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) time of 1:01.60.
Courtney (Smith) ran a nice race in the 400m hurdles and is positioning herself at the top of our league," added Smith.
Courtney Dooley led the way in the 400m dash with a time of 2:19.15 and was joined by teammate Stephanie McDermott in 81st with a time of 2:27.29.
McDermott also competed in the 1500m run, earning 60th with a time of 5:02.03.
"Today's efforts will pay big dividends down the road," added Smith. "The quality of our competition will get better by week so this weekend was a good opportunity for our people to race at a high level and focus on making the improvements they need to make in order to compete at a high level down the road."
The Black Knights will next take to the Larry Ellis Invite on April 17-18 from Princeton, N.J., before taking to the Penn Relays for the three-day event in Philadelphia on April 23-25. They will return home on May 1 and 2 to host the Patriot League Championships from Shea Stadium.
