Army Set to Host NIRA Championship Weekend

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) semifinals and finals will be played at the Anderson Rugby Complex this weekend. Friday's semifinals at 3 and 5 p.m. will determine who will compete for the national championship on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The first semifinal pits top-seeded Central Washington (8-2, 4-0 NIRA) against No. 4 AIC (4-5, 4-4 NIRA), while the third-seeded Black Knights (5-4, 2-3 NIRA) will face off against No. 2 Quinnipiac (9-1, 7-1 NIRA) in the second semifinal.

#1 CENTRAL WASHINGTON (8-2, 4-0 NIRA)
• The Wildcats are 3-0 against the field.
• Freshman Suliuana A'au leads the team with 15 tries and 75 points.
• Sophomore Ashlee Byrge has converted a team-high 14 times.
• Central Washington is riding a seven-match winning streak in which it is scoring an average of 51 points per match, while allowing less than 30 points in all seven contests.
#2 QUINNIPIAC (9-1, 7-1 NIRA)
• The Bobcats are 3-1 against the field.
• Quinnipiac's offense is led by sophomore Emily Roskopf, who has scored 85 points on 17 tries, and senior Madison Gegeckas, who has contributed 82 points on two tries, 33 conversions and two penalty kicks.
• Gegeckas was the driving force in the 213-0 victory over Castleton on Oct. 23, with 56 points (two tries and 23 conversions).
• Quinnipiac has won 15 of its last 16 contests with the lone loss coming against Central Washington, 19-12, on Oct. 15.
#3 ARMY (5-4, 2-3 NIRA)
• The Black Knights are 1-2 against the field.
• Freshman Bayleigh Gable leads Army with 54 points and 18 conversions on the season.
• Junior Rebecca Stipp is second on the team offensively with 52 points, including a team-best eight tries.
• Army comes into the semifinals on a three-match winning streak in which it has only surrendered two tries.
#4 AIC (4-5, 4-4 NIRA)
• The Yellow Jackets are 0-4 against the field.
• Sophomore Anne-Laurence Harvey leads the team with six tries.
• Senior Sarah Coucci has scored a team-high 33 points and has converted successfully 15 times.
• AIC has won three out of its last four matches.
