Women’s Rugby Finish as Runner-Up at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Army West Point women's rugby team showcased its best performance of the season with a runner-up finish at the West Chester 7s Tournament with a record of 3-2 on Saturday.
"The girls worked very hard on their defensive shape, roles and responsibilities," said head coach Bill LeClerc. "It was really satisfying to see their hard work pay off with our best performance so far this season."
A 22-7 victory over the host Golden Rams kicked off the day with tries coming from Taylor Jessop, Chioma Odocha, Kirsten Redmon and Mariah Caid-Loos. The lone conversion in the match came off the foot of Kaeleigh Warfield. Army dropped its next match, 24-10, with senior Lindy Clark accounting for all of Army's points.
The Black Knights responded in impressive fashion against Bloomsburg, taking a 36-15 win. Clark was the team's leading scorer for the second-straight match with nine points, while Jessop, Sydney DeWees, Odocha, Caid-Loos and Zye Crittington. Carissa Pekny added two points in the match with a conversion as well.
In the semifinals, Army blew Princeton away with a 37-0 shutout. Odocha scored the most points in a single match for Army on the day with 15, while Redmon reached double-digit points with two tries for 10. Dewees and Becca Stipp scored tries in the match while Clark added a conversion.
American International awaited Army in the finals, and the Yellow Jackets took a 26-12 victory to claim the championship. In the match, Dewees powered her way for two tries while Clark converted once.
On the day, Odocha led the team with 25 points on five tries with Clark trailing directly behind with 23 points. Dewees dotted down four times four 20 points, while Redmon scored 15 points.
The Black Knights will compete in their final road tournament next weekend, heading to Bowdoin on Saturday, April 23.
